Mini Reviews #8

The Look by Sophia Bennett Publisher/Year: March 1st 2012 Chicken House Source/Format: Paperback | Bought Rating: 4 stars out of 5 I have owned this book for a good couple of years, and for some reason I just kept putting off reading it. However, at the very end of 2015 I finally picked it up and I was pleasantly surprised. A big interest of mine is the world of fashion and modelling, which is why I initially bought this book. I enjoyed the fact that Bennett tried to make this book less fluffy by putting the whole cancer storyline in, and I think it worked quite well. Of all the characters, I think I liked Ava the most and the scenes with her and Ted together were my favourite of Ted's. I love a good strong family element in books and this certainly had one. I own another of Sophia's books and I will be sure to pick it up soon. Top Ten Bookworm Delights

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Top Ten Bookworm Delights. 1. The smell of books Old books, new books, it doesn't matter! I just love the smell of the pages. 2. Talking about books with other people I love being able to talk about books, because it is something I love so so much. 3. Audiobooks I find it so soothing sometimes to listen to an audiobook and have someone reading to me. 4. Connecting the title of the book to the story Whenever I make that connection, whether the actual words are written in the book or I finally understand why the book is named what it is, it makes me so happy. 5. When a book is ready for me at the library I love using the library, and being able to pick up a book I've been wanting to read for ages is so much fun. 6. Reading on a rainy day I love the rain so so much, and I also love reading, so combining the two to

As You Wish by Jackson Pearce: Book review

Publisher/Year: August 31st 2010 HarperTeen Genre: YA Fantasy Series: Genies #1 Pages: 304 Source/Format: Paperback | Bought Rating: 4 stars out of 5 *This review may contain spoilers!* Synopsis Ever since Viola's boyfriend broke up with her, she has spent her days silently wishing—for someone to love her again and, most important, to belong again—until her wishes inadvertently summon a genie named Jinn out of his world and into her own. He will remain until she makes three wishes. But it's only after Viola makes her first wish that she realizes she's in love with Jinn . . . and that if she wishes twice more, he will disappear from her life—and her world—forever. My review This book was exactly what I needed when I read it: cute and fluffy, but with some substance. I love Jackson's writing, and I have for years. It had been ages since I read a book of hers, so picking this up was very enjoyable. Genies are a thing I don't think I

Top Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Top Ten Books That Will Make You Laugh. 1.  Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead Rose's sarcasm in this series had me laughing the whole way, and it really eases up the tension of some situations she finds herself in. 2.  Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare Will's humour is similar to Rose's: very dry and witty. 3.  Withering Tights by Louise Rennison You can't help but laugh at Tallulah's awkwardness, partly because it's so relatable. 4.  An Idiot Abroad by Karl Pilkington I love Karl's outlook on life, and how he's not impressed by anything. 5.  Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell I didn't expect this book to be as funny as it was, but Levi did make me chuckle. 6.  Me and Earl and the Dying Girl by Jesse Andrews This whole book is really funny, but not necessarily in a laugh-out-loud way all the

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg Publisher/Year: September 1st 2014 47North Series: The Paper Magician Trilogy #1 Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley (Thanks NetGalley/47North!) Rating: 3.5 stars out of 5 I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion. When I read the words The Paper Magician, I just knew I had to give this book a go. This book, for me, was quite slow to start, but when I got into it I did actually enjoy it. Ceony as a protagonist was fine; there wasn't anything special about her, but I could see parts of myself in her. At times Magister Thane got on my nerves, like we get it, you're dark, mysterious and brooding! However, I did enjoy the two of them together. The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg Publisher/Year: November 4th 2014 47North Series: The Paper Magician Trilogy #2 Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley (Thanks NetGalley/47North!) Rating: 3.5 stars out o
