Top Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently That Weren't My Typical Type of Book

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Top Ten Books I Enjoyed Recently That Weren't My Typical Type of Book. 1.  Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick I don't typically read mysteries/thrillers so this book was certainly out of my comfort zone. 2.  Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake I don't even like watching Horror films, let alone reading Horror novels like Girl of Nightmares. 3.  The Moaning of Life by Karl Pilkington I really don't read a lot of non-fiction, and definitely not celebrity memoirs. 4.  Reservoir Dogs by Quentin Tarantino I've only ever read 2 screenplays in my life, this being one of them. 5.  The Martian by Andy Weir I actually don't read a lot of sci-fi, so this was an exception. 6.  Emma by Jane Austen I haven't read many classics, but this is something that is out of my comfort zone that I want to change. 7.

Mini Reviews #5

Image
More mini reviews, because I have so many books I need to review! Dark Room by Tom Becker Publisher/Year: September 10th 2015 Stripes Publishing Series: Red Eye Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley (Thanks NetGalley/Stripes Publishing!) Rating: 3 stars out of 5 I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion. I requested this book initially because of the photography element, as it is a passion of mine, but I also enjoy reading about it. I was wary as it is pitched as Horror, and I am not the biggest fan of that, but I was actually disappointed. It wasn't scary in the slightest and I wanted some. However, this book was very visual and easy to read, so I can't complain there. The killer was predictable and there weren't many moments that surprised me, unfortunately. All of the Above by James Dawson Publisher/Year: September 3rd 2015 Hot Key Books Source/Format: e-arc | NetGalley (Thanks NetGal

Top Ten Songs I Wish That Were Books

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Top Ten Songs I Wish That Were Books. 1. Wires - Athlete This song makes me cry every time I listen to it, and I think that would be the same if it were in book form too. 2. Brooklyn Baby - Lana Del Ray I feel like this song would make such a cool indie book. 3. Separate and Ever Deadly - The Last Shadow Puppets If I could, every song on this album would be included on this list but I think this one in particular would work very well. 4. Paperback Writer - The Beatles This song is about an aspiring writer, and would be perfect to read about. 5. Hourglass - Catfish and the Bottlemen This song is all about someone missing the person they love, and I think if that idea was used as something to build on for a book, it would be great. 6. Love Me - The 1975 All the talk of fame in this song would make for an interesting boo

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman: Book review

Publisher/Year: May 7th 2015 Sceptre Genre: Contemporary Fiction Series: No Pages: 320 Source/Format: Paperback | bookbridgr (Thanks bookbridgr/Sceptre!) Rating: 5 stars out of 5 I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion. *This review may contain spoilers! Synopsis At first sight, Ove is almost certainly the grumpiest man you will ever meet. He thinks himself surrounded by idiots - neighbours who can't reverse a trailer properly, joggers, shop assistants who talk in code, and the perpetrators of the vicious coup d'etat that ousted him as Chairman of the Residents' Association. He will persist in making his daily inspection rounds of the local streets. But isn't it rare, these days, to find such old-fashioned clarity of belief and deed? Such unswerving conviction about what the world should be, and a lifelong dedication to making it just so? In the end, you will see, there

Top Ten Fictional Crushes

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Valentine's Day themed, so I picked my Top Ten Fictional Crushes. 1. Shane - The Morganville Vampires For some reason I preferred Shane over Michael in this series. I think I enjoyed how funny he is in the books and how much he cares. 2. Sam - The Wolves of Mercy Falls I felt that Grace and Sam's relationship was so cute and I liked how sensitive Sam seemed. 3. Jace - The Mortal Instruments Of course I love Jace! I mean, who doesn't? 4. Zed - Finding Sky Out of all the Benedict Brothers, I remember Zed being my favourite when I read them the first time. 5. Will - The Infernal Devices I still find it really hard to choose between Will and Jem, but I think this is my choice. 6. Gansey - The Raven Cycle Part of the reason why I love this series so much is because all of the boys are so charming, but I particul

Jeremy is the painfully shy art nerd at Saint Francis who’s been in self-imposed isolation after an incident that ruined his last year of school. When he sees Sebby for the first time across the school lawn, it’s as if he’s been expecting this blond, lanky boy with mischief glinting in his eye. Top Ten Historical Settings I Love

Image
Hi everyone! Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, which is hosted over at  The Broke and The Bookish . This week's topic is Top Ten Historical Settings I Love. 1. 1920's New York I just love the glitz and glamour of it all, but also the gangs and the violence. If I could go anywhere in time, it would be here. 2. 1950's England After reading The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets I fell in love with this time period. 3. First/Second World War For some unknown reason, I love reading books about war. 4. 1920's Shanghai Despite not loving Ghosts of Shanghai, my favourite part was probably the setting, especially as I didn't expect it to be that interesting. 5. 1960's America When I read Disappear Home, I loved the setting and all the hippies. 6. Salem Witch Trials This time setting is equally scary as it is interesting for me. 7. Victorian London This might be my other option if I had the choice to time travel somewhere, b
